THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IS NOT THE BARRIER, BUT CHOOSING WHETHER TO WALK AROUND IT, ABOVE IT, MOVE IT, CLIMB OVER IT OR LOVE IT....
As an individual with 36 years experiencing living with dual physical disabilities and approximately 18 years + experience working within the disability sector, today i have chosen to FLY above it.
Take a bird's eye view and hopefully reiterate to others that disability is not the barrier, but it is often our own or others perception of our capabilities. Combined with the limited support available to navigate theses conditions.
As a neuropathic pain suffer, I have had moments when the pain and discomfort was so great that whether I sat or stood, nothing appeared to help.
So often due to frustration dreamed and wished I could fly. Well now I get to realise a dream of flying with your help.
I plan to complete a Charity Tandem Sky Dive on the 11th March, (if I am allowed) and raise a minimum of £600 by 9th March.
I have completed my medical with GP and he said YES. Now I have an assessment with London Parachute School on the 4th March and if they say yes SKY DIVE and training on the11th March✈ 😁
(If they say no😟 which might be because of how my disability presents and muscle weakness in right leg and arm. I would like GAIN to keep all donations and money raised if you accept)
However i am hoping for a YES!
The money raised will contribute towards cost of my sky dive and remainder given to the charity GAIN. The more money i raise the more the charity gets.
UPDATE: Due to the current SNOW and WEATHER FOR RECAST for MARCH, my CHARITY SKY sky DIVE and ASSESSMENT will now be scheduled for APRIL. NEW DATE will be provided soon
Looking to do assessmment 13th April and Sky Dive 14th April 🔊🔊🚁🚁
About Me :
I am a senior social worker, disability life coach, trainer and mentor.
My dual disabilities include Spina Bifida Culta, diagnosed aged 8 years. Then at age 24, in my second year in university I was diagnosed with (C.I.D.P) Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Poly-neuropathy, a variant of Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare auto-immune condition affecting the peripheral nervous system, usually leading to temporary or long-term paralysis. Around 80% of those with GBS will make a good recovery, but between 5-10% of people will not survive and the other 10-15% may be left with severe mobility or dexterity issues.
GAIN is my chosen charity because they help people understand and manage both acute and chronic variants of the syndrome (such as C.I.D.P), raises awareness, and promote clinical and non-clinical research into these conditions.
C.I.D.P is so rare that the last time I did a little research, only 500 people in the UK have this diagnosis.
Treatment usually include; Steriods, IVIG or Plasma exchange, all of which i have tried and currently trying IVIG again. However this is degenerative condition and still awaiting a cure.
Help me, help others with this rare condition find a cure, cause and way to not just survive but LIVE.For more info visit www.gaincharity.org.uk
