We work to enable asylum seekers & refugees living in Kirklees to rebuild their lives after the hardship & distress of fleeing their homes. Aided by a growing team of volunteers, we offer advocacy and holistic support through a range of services...demonstrating the warmth of Huddersfield's heart.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. You may have heard of the Couch to 5K  well this is the broken ankle to 10K! In June 2021 I broke my left ankle and spent 6 weeks in a plaster cast and months on crutches. I needed a challenge to not only get me walking normally again but hopefully running. I am a volunteer for DASH, a Huddersfield based charity working with asylum seekers who face enormous challenges every day as they strive to learn a new language, make ends meet  and integrate into a new way of life. Every donation, however small, will help and will particularly assist those whose cases are complex and require additional legal support beyond the small number of hours provided by legal aid. DASH also have a significant number of asylum seekers who are themselves volunteers who use their own experience and language skills to assist others. Donations will also help with transport costs to enable these volunteers to offer this much needed peer support. My supporter on the run will be my daughter, Rachel, who has worked with asylum seekers in Lebanon and Turkey and will get me over the finish line even if she has to drag me!
