On 5th September 2010 our lives changed forever when our wonderful son, Captain Andrew Griffiths, died as a result of wounds he sustained in Afghanistan 12 days earlier. In the immediate months after his death while we tried to come to terms with what had happened, we spent a lot of hours running together with so many difficult emotions; a bit like Forrest Gump. It helped to an extent. We've also watched others doing such wonderful things to raise money to remember their sons and daughters who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This year, the fifth anniversary of Andrew's death we wanted to do something together and our challenge is the London Marathon. We are running in it for SSAFA.
Why SSAFA? Whilst we were in Birmingham we saw at first hand what they were doing to give support to service families in their darkest hours providing accommodation, personal and financial support. For all of us during this period the ability to be able to concentrate on your loved one instead of the niff naff and trivia of daily life was a gift beyond words. We just wanted to say thank you and give something back.
We both realise that over the years you will have been asked many times to support various charities but any small token that you can donate would be much appreciated.
