Solent Swim 2021 · 4 September 2021

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Thank you very much for visiting my JustGiving page.

In February 2019 I had a hip replacement and swam 100 miles in lakes and pools in fourteen weeks. In September 2020 I swam 6.5km along the River Arun. Thank you very much to all my loyal supporters for your generosity over the last few years.

This year I have signed up to swim across the Solent from Stokes Bay to Ryde Sands on the Isle of Wight on 4th September. The swim is 2.5 – 3 miles depending on the tide. And that is the challenge for me – I’ve done hardly any swimming in the sea, apart from paddling on holiday as a child. Some days I am really looking forward to it, other days I wonder what on earth I have let myself in for. I’ve set myself the target of raising another £1,000 for Aspire.

During the past year Aspire, like most charities, has struggled with a drop in income, whilst the need for their equipment and rehabilitation for those with spinal injuries has continued apace. They do some amazing work and make such a difference to people’s lives.

To cheer me on and to support Aspire, please sponsor me.
