On 12th April I completed the greatest physical challenge of my life. I ran, hiked (and staggered) for 6 days and a night across the Southern Moroccan Sahara, completing the infamous Marathon des Sables. I felt humbled in the company of great athletes and small and alone at times in the midst of formidable desert landscapes. I felt parched, sick and exhausted as the temps rose above 50 degrees in the day before plummeting at night. My water was strictly rationed, and as a slower runner, I struggled to make the cut-off times and spent much time in the sun. I was not tempted to give up  ...why not?     Because....

Millions of working donkeys and mules in poor countries work this hard EVERY DAY of their lives.  They do not have a voice.  They rely on us humans and on our compassion. They need shade, they need water and they need veterinary care..their owners are often too poor to provide it.
