Story

Evil prospers when good men do nothing.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most, if not all, of you will know Zimbabwe and the farming community is very very close to my heart. Sadly I have witnessed firsthand the atrocities that are being committed in my beautiful homeland.
I am doing a sponsored ride to support the Mike Campbell Foundation.

Some more about the aims and commitments about this unique charity below:
The Mike Campbell Foundation's goal is to promote and protect the rule of law in Zimbabwe and to uphold basic human rights that should be fundamental to society. Unfortunately, these fundamental rights, like property rights and protection from harm, are not often adhered to in Zimbabwe. Their ultimate vision is the elimination of infringements of human rights in Zimbabwe and the entire SADC region. Their goal is to also support victims of human rights abuses, in particular displaced and dispossessed farm workers who are in dire straits as a result of gross human rights abuses arising from the programme of land seizures. These have devastated Zimbabwe, which formerly had the highest farming productivity in Africa. Right now there are around 300,000 displaced farm workers in Zimbabwe, and this number is growing farm invasions continue.
Unfortunately more and more of our family, friends and workers have been affected very recently.

This young couple were tied up with barbed wire and beaten in front of their children (aged 2 & 4).

This is a story about the farm workers who were evicted and displaced in the last month- often a side of the story that doesn't get told but dispels the purely racial motives. These people are just as much (often even more so the victims, than just the farmers).

I have done a few half marathons but never spent this long in a bike saddle (or probably even sat still anywhere!) but I thought I would go for the toughest option and really challenge myself. Unfortunately even more so because I will be in Zim with nothing but one of my first ever bicycles for the first two weeks of training! :-/

We are very lucky to have our funding matched by Vodafone, so please donate knowing it will be doubled!
