Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

I lost my son Mikey to Cystic Fibrosis in 2010 , he was 25 years old. Mikey desperately needed a transplant and hoped he would be here to see the 2012 Oylmpics, sadly this was not to be.

I decided i would run a marathon in 2012 in Mikeys memory. I had never ran before! i met my running buddy Sue when we were out walking with our partners. Our husbands used to work together and during the conversation it was mentioned about running. Sue B said she had always wanted to run a Marathon as well, with that we joined a local athletic club and havent looked back.

We initially could only run between one lampost to the next, a year on and we are doing well. Neither of us being spring chickens it hasnt always been easy, but we are determined to achieve our dream.

Mikey spent considerable time in Papworth hospital on the CF unit, a place where Mikey made and lost many of his friends. A place where they help CF adults live with their condition and not just exist.

I hope you will help us achieve our Target, the sum representing this year 2012.

We will update you with our progress!

Well its April and my buddy Sue is injured! Sue hasnt been able to run since January and has been really frustrated by this. Still i have been out three times a week trying to improve and get some miles under my belt! I have been so lucky that Keith a fab 78 year old club member has taken me under his wing and runs with me each Sunday getting my miles up. He with Tick, and Tony keep me going. I cant thank them enough. Not only that but they push me mid week as well. I have just had lousy chest infection which resulted in me not running for a week and i cant afford the time off. On top of that the joy of blistered feet!! still at least its happened now, and i now know what to do to avoid them again! so new shoes to break in and im now liking them. It was hard adjusting, as my old trainers were like my best friends and parting with them was sad! still im sure these shiny new ones will cope with the challenges ahead!

I will try and put some photos on later this week!

I recently ran in the Olympic stadium! yes me!!! who would have thought it. A very emotional experience.

Its six weeks to go and i am at 15% target so need lots of donations!!! so if you are reading this please give, its to a fab cause. Sue is not going to be able to run the Marathon with me and i will have to go it alone!!! but she will be coming up to Scotland and support me and hopefully next year do another marathon together, depending how this one goes!!!
