Story
Hi, I’m Joy. I like clothes, One Direction ... and I also really like sugar!
I’m Rosy, and I like doing ballet and tap dancing. I absolutely love chocolate!
Thomas and Ingrid like CAKE!
But soon neither chocolate, cake, nor any form of sugar will even enter our household or cross our lips until the 4th April. We are giving up sugar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Yes, you read that correctly!)
Our family has decided to eat porridge each morning (attempting maize meal and soya flour porridge like they eat in Burundi). To challenge ourselves further, our only source of sweetness in anything we eat throughout the day will be natural fruit! This will raise awareness in our own minds of the challenges other people across the world face, whilst also helping to tackle the problem through fundraising. We will donate the money that we save.
Please could you consider donating some money to this cause to support more life-changing projects - and of course to help us reach our target!
You can either give a donation now or track our progress through Lent and give a donation when we make it through to Easter Day....or give a donation now (to encourage us) and one later - if we succeed!
We are raising money for those for whom going without isn't just a choice for Lent, but a daily reality.....and our fundraising will be doubled!
For people like Abeer* and her children, giving things up hasn't been a choice. Conflict forced them to flee their home in fear. Now Abeer and her small children live in a temporary camp in Iraq where its hard to get the basic essentials they need to survive. Tens of millions of people around the world have lost their homes, livelihoods and hope in similar ways to Abeer.
Until 30 April, our fundraising will be doubled, thanks to an incredibly generous group of tearfund supporters who have agreed to match whatever is raised this Lent (up to a collective total of £1 million!)
£273 doubled could provide enough clothing for 20 children like Abeer's that fit them and protects them from the extremes of heat in summer and cold in winter.
Please help us to reach our target and help to provide for other children.
