WHY CARERS - I'm Zac and here's why The Inside Edit are doing this. At the age of 21 I was my mother's full time carer as she battled the final stages of cancer. It was a difficult time for me. While many of my friends enjoyed the fruits of youth, I was living a lonely and very isolated reality. I didn't have any money and felt there wasn't anyone I could talk to.
Carers are the unsung heroes who step forward to serve others in a way that isn't headline grabbing. It's a role that demands a lot of time, which can often lead to putting your own wishes and hopes on hold. There is also the big challenge of staying positive.
ABOUT THE RACE - My brother Reg and I (both dads) will be dressing up as superheros and competing head to head in a 5k pushchair race around Hyde Park, London. To make it more interesting we'll be loading the pushchairs with seasonal fruit - you can imagine where we're going with this. We are expected to reach the finishing line at around 2:30pm. We'd love to see as many of you as possible, especially little ones who can dress up in their favourite superhero costumes!
The Carers Trust work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems.
