POST UPDATE
I finished the journey and Fin joined me for the last one!! I decided to go a bit further, 320km to represent the total amount of time Fin had actual treatment for (3 years and 2 months). A did a grand total of 321.1km and it took me 15hrs and 49 minutes to complete. I am beyond grateful for the huge amount of support I have had and the wonderful donations received, this I know will go onto hopefully help cure this awful disease. Here's hoping for a continued bright future for us all XXxxx
MY STORY
For those of you that don't know, my son Finley was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia back in June 2013 (age 5), where he went on to have 3 years of ongoing treatment, which consisted of daily chemotherapy, weekly blood tests and regular hospital procedures.
It goes without saying that without fantastic medical care and this treatment my son wouldn't have survived. Therefore, this year marks a momentous occasion where Finley returns to 'basic medical care' following 5 years clear of treatment, so it goes without question that I need to take on this challenge to support this fantastic cause and raise money to hopefully help cure this awful disease.
My challenge is: Taking part in The Tour 21 Strava Challenge where I will ride the same distance as the longest stage of this years Tour de France route - 248km, between 19th June and 11th July. The aim is to raise vital funds for Cure Leukaemia, supporting the Tour 21s fundraising target of £1 million as 25 amateur cyclists take on the Tour de France route ahead of the pros. Every single £ raised will be invested in Cure Leukaemia's vital life-saving work, with the aim of finding a cure for blood cancer within the next 15 years.
My wonderful colleagues when I worked in the the Fire Service did the first 'Spin4Fin' on static bikes for 24 hours, so now it's my turn to finish the journey :)
So if you would like to kindly support me and donate to this fantastic cause, please do so via this page. Thank you all for your contributions and please look out for my regular updates on here and Facebook on how I am doing. Give me a beep if you see me pedalling and wish me luck.
Thank you :) Sal XXxxx
