Story

www.callmyselfarunner.com

My wonderful father-in-law, Roger,  passed away on 15th October 2014, just two months after falling ill, and just a month after receiving a cancer diagnosis. It was an incredibly difficult and painful time, but the support of the Saint Francis Hospice was invaluable to me, my husband Francis and brother-in-law Stephen, and they made it possible for Roger to stay at home until the end.

I want to help the Hospice continue to do such brilliant work for other families, and they were also a charity that Roger donated to before he was ill, so it seems fitting that I support them in his memory.

I will be taking part in 24 marathon and ultra marathon events in 12 months including the Thames Path 100 mile ultra marathon and, the longest of my races, an unbelievable 145 mile run in May from Birmingham to London!!! It's further than I've ever been before, it's non-stop (as in, stop for more than 40 minutes and get disqualified) and is going to be the hardest challenge I've ever taken on.

It's going to be a tough year, especially as we work out what life is like without Roger. He was so interested in my events, and we always talked about what I had coming up next - he even came up to the Lake District to support me during the Brathay 10 in 10 in 2013 - personally it helps to be doing something with him in mind.

You can visit my blog at www.callmyselfarunner.com for updates on how I'm getting on and for a list of all the events I'm taking part in.
