Story
I want to start a new national initiative on social media. Hospitals all over the country are about to take on an unprecedented fight for their local community. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if everyone that lives within the catchment area of their local hospital gives something back, no matter how small. Maybe if we start this here in Sheffield, the rest of the country will follow suit.
I contacted the Sheffield Hospitals Charity to ask if I could do anything to help. This was the reply;
Hello Liam,
“Thank you for getting in touch and for thinking of your colleagues and friends in what is and will be a very difficult period for staff across our hospitals.
Donations will be used to support staff as and when the trust feel appropriate over the coming months. If you would be happy to promote to people you think might be interested in supporting that would be great.”
The link to their page is below with more info about how they aim to help all of Sheffield’s hospitals through the next few months
Meanwhile, I’ve set up a Just Giving page to facilitate easier support in social media. The money has nothing to do with me and goes straight to the registered charity. Maybe other towns and cities will follow suit and raise awareness for their local supporting charities. It is a time where people are on social media more than ever. Let’s use that time for something good which will benefit you, your family, your friends and your local hospital and it’s staff.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
If everyone gives just £1 it could be a quid towards Protective equipment for staff, towards vital medications, towards making the experience better for patients and families or care packages for staff at this trying time. As mentioned above, the charity liaises with the trusts of Sheffield to find out where your money will have the best impact at that moment in time. Many hospital charities around the UK are using money raised for support packages for staff. This could be something as simple as a top up of milk and coffee, or shower supplies to wash with at work. This charity doesn’t just cater to staff, but the running of the Sheffield trusts as a whole. The last few months has highlighted what the NHS means to all those who have ever used it or may need to use it. I know we already pay taxes and support it involuntarily, but I’m supporting it in other ways too, through my actions. Who’s with me 🙌
I’m a Nurse working in acute cardiology at the local hospital and all of my colleagues are grateful for all the support the charity already does for the hospitals of Sheffield.
