Who are we?

We are a team of 11 doing a skydive from 15,000 feet on 23rd May to raise money for CLIC SARGENT. Are we terrified? Of course we are. However, nothing is as terrifying as hearing the dreadful diagnosis that your child has cancer.

When cancer strikes young lives CLIC SARGENT helps limit the damage it causes beyond their health. TODAY, 12 more children and young people will hear the devastating news they have cancer. CLIC SARGENT fights tirelessly for these young children and helps support their families too. And if the worst happens, they work with bereaved families to help them cope with their emotional pain.

'A few years ago, my seven year old grandson was taken ill and our local hospital quickly diagnosed leukaemia. He was then rushed to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children where he was treated for a month. Clic Sargent sprang into action offering practical and emotional support at a time when the parents were in shock and exhausted. Their Clic House near the hospital accommodates families of the young patients and his parents were able to stay there for the entire month as were we, his grandparents. After he was discharged a Clic Sargent nurse visited him at home every week, they provided weekends away for the family, and other pastoral support. They were always there at the end of the phone and the family never felt alone. This support was in place for the entire four years of his illness. He is thankfully fully recovered but the family’s gratitude to Clic Sargent is immense. Without them, what was a traumatic period would have been even more devastating and the cushion they provided was crucial.'  Tony Phillips
