Arctic Meander 18

In September I will be joining a team of six friends, our challenge being to complete the northern section of the Kings Trail and whilst doing so raise money for charity. The King's Trail is Sweden's best-known long-distance hiking path, and the majesty of scenery and the beauty of this wild and open landscape provides for a unique hiking adventure.

The northern section of the King's Trail ("Kungsleden" in Swedish) in Lapland is probably the most famous part of this historic 440km long-distance walking path. From its start point at the tourist station in Abisko, the trail leads south towards Kebnekaise which, at 2105m, is Sweden's highest mountain. Formed by the STF (Swedish Tourist Association) in the early 1990’s it has become recognized as one of the world’s greatest hikes. The weather in September will be on the change and the first snows of winter can occur, so warm clothing and safety gear will be essential.

The route for ‘Arctic Meander’ is from Abisko in the North to Nikkaluokta, a total distance of 106km. This section with its rugged landscapes, the highest mountain pass on the trail (Tjakta Pass) is by far the most popular section of the trail, seeing thousands of hikers each year. Our plan is to complete the route in 5 days.

This will be my first adventure challenge on this scale so I hope you can support me in raising money for my chosen charity,
