Sue, Steve, Charlotte and Josh are taking part in the Pink Ribbon Walk to help Breast Cancer Now fund their world-class research and life-changing care for anyone affected by breast cancer. By 2030, it’s estimated that 1.2 million women will be living with the disease. Breast Cancer Now are uniting to make life-saving discoveries and are here to offer expert support to anyone, the whole way through their breast cancer experience. But they cant do it alone. By sponsoring our Pink Ribbon Walk you can help change the lives of men and women and the future of breast cancer.
Our families have experienced loved ones going through the emotional and physical impacts of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Including myself, diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer last year, found at my routine mammogram check. Triple -ve are fast growing and lack receptors for the common treatments such as hormone therapies, relying on chemotherapy based options. I had no indication, and being found early through screening was critical for my treatment and outcomes. Ladies PLEASE don’t miss your screening appointments when offered, take time to examine yourself regularly, know what is normal for you, and get advice if you have any concerns. 55,000, women in UK are diagnosed each year, and 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer during their life. A recent survey suggests nearly 50% women don’t check themselves regularly, so please, take the time!
I am so grateful for the care, compassion and skill of all NHS staff involved in treating cancer patients. And a time when it can all seem overwhelming, Breast Cancer Now were there to provide invaluable support through their excellent web resources and information, and Moving Forward course where you can share experiences with others and get advice from healthcare professionals.
I am very fortunate, a year on from being in the middle of my chemotherapy, to now be able to enjoy this walk with family. And to have had the support of family, friends and work colleagues. Last year I met others across a wide range of ages and circumstances dealing with the challenges and impacts of treatment and surgery. I will not forget how important it is to keep raising funds to develop new treatments, help reduce reoccurrence, and improve the quality of life and outlook for those living with secondary cancer. This is one way we can all help. Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
