Story

Between 4th January  and 4th February 2021 I am undertaking a virtual challenge: running the 44.4 miles from where I live in Gartcosh to The Roslin Institute.

The Roslin Institute is the world leading research facility and home to the GenOMICC project funded by Sepsis Research FEAT, the UKs only sepsis research charity.

Every year around 50,000 people in the UK die of sepsis. That's roughly one every 12 minutes. It can affect any of us at any time.

The GenOMICC project is one of the few research projects that has continued during the pandemic and thanks to the huge effort of the team has already discovered 5 genes that make people susceptible to life-threatening infections including sepsis and COVID-19, and in some cases has lead directly to therapeutic targets.

The research paper (Cairo-Castineira, E., Clohisey, S.,
Klaric, L. et al. Genetic mechanisms of critical illness in
Covid-19. Nature (2020)) c
an be accessed via the GenOMICC
website:
https://genomicc.org/results/

I would be really grateful if you felt able to help spread news of my challenge to #SockItToSepsis and consider sponsoring me as I join Sepsis Research FEAT in its battle to #StopSepsisNow.

Thank you!
