Strawny got to 20k by the end of 2020. Now for 21k .

Strawny keeps asking you to dig deep for dementia research!! · 19 June 2020
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have so far raised /donated £17,380 for Alzheimer's Research UK. How brilliant would it be to get to £20,000 by the end of 2020!!
As an incentive to you to dig deep, if I reach my target I will have my head shaved. Those who know me and know how vain I am will realise this is not a small thing!!!
I was diagnosed in September 2014 with Vascular Dementia. I had had symptoms since December 2012. I was shocked by the diagnosis, because although I KNEW something was not right, dementia had never been in my thinking. After a period of denial and depression I realised I had a choice: continue to wallow and be depressed or get up off my backside and DO something. That something turned out to be running the 2018 London Marathon for Alzheimer's Research UK! My GP had said that in order to manage my cardio-vascular risk the best thing for me to do was take up running, so I started Couch to 5K .....
My 'little' story caught people's attention and as well as appearing on local TV I was on BBC Breakfast on the morning of the Marathon. The Marathon was the hottest on record. I truly don't remember much of the day but I have photos and videos that bring the memories flooding back.
I was asked to take part in the Channel 4 series The Restaurant that Makes Mistakes. I saw this as another opportunity to raise awareness of dementia and to continue to bust some myths about the disease. Along with 13 other people of working age, all diagnosed with dementia, we managed to set up and run a restaurant for 5 weeks in Bristol. The whole project was a great success.
My next 'challenge' was to get a tattoo at 63! It hadn't occurred to me to ask for sponsorship but it seems that some people thought it worth sending a few bright shiny pounds!
Just before lockdown in March 2020 I ran the Big Half in London and was able to add a few more pounds to the pot.
If you would like to see any of the interviews, This Morning, BBC News, BBC Midlands Today, Channel 5 News they are on Youtube sue strachan.
I will continue to be a fundraiser for Alzheimer's Research UK as long as I am able or until a 'cure' is found. It would be wonderful if I was around to see a 'cure'.
This charity has been so supportive of my efforts and they give me hope.
So forgive my constant pestering....and if you have been able to donate a huge THANK YOU xx
