We grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.

Story

Sue Charlton was a loving wife and mother and a friend to so many. She sadly passed away suddenly and without warning on Saturday 5th October.

She leaves behind her husband, Matt and her 2 year old son, Harry.

Sue was a childrens nurse and did many things as part of her work to help children and their families through illnesses - some had life threatening conditions and the care that Sue provided played a big part in making sure that the child and their family could enjoy what time they had left together.

From a very young age she wanted to be a nurse and throughout her life has always gone out of her way to help others.  She was selfless and always put everyone else before herself.

Make a wish have a special place in both my own and Sue's heart - creating moments of happiness for children who have life threatening conditions and making their situations that much more bearable by providing an escape from doctors and hospital appointments and daily life.  This has a positive effect on the whole family.

Not long after she passed away, friends and family began to ask about where they could make donations to - hence this page was born.

I started to spread the message - one of making sure that you tell the people that you love that you do love them and hugging them that bit closer to you - you never know when you will lose the chance to tell them again.  Life sometimes can be far too cruel.

The Make a Wish foundation have been in touch and have let me know that it costs around £4,000 to take a child and their family to Walt Disney World and that we can allocate Sue's fund as full or part payment to one of these specific wishes if we like - I've asked for this to be done.

We hit the £4000 target a few weeks ago and with gift aid we stand at around £6700 - I'd like to try to hit £8000 now and send two families to Walt Disney World.

Thank you so much for everything you've all done so far and all the money you've raised.  It means so much to me and I love you all dearly.

Sue would be so proud.

The last month has been the hardest of my life.  Without a doubt.  Nothing else even comes close, but the amount of generosity and love shown by those who knew Sue and those who just want to help make a difference is astounding and is giving me a strength within that I just din't realise that I had.

I've had many challenges over the last few weeks - some of them are part and parcel of administration following the passing away of someone and others have been due to issues with certain organisations and their processes and policies following the death of a loved one.  One of the things that has kept me going has been this fundraising mission - making something good from something bad.

If you can, please consider making a donation to Make a Wish through this fund.  What's more important is that you take stock of your life, tell those around you that you care about them (even if you think that they know) and hold all those dear to you as close as you can.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
