Story
In 2019, the year after Mummy died, I ran my first 10km to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The year after James upped the ante and we decided to run the last quarter (26km) of the Isle of Wight Challenge, fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK. It was to be the furthest I've run and would have been my first trail running challenge. Then in Spring 2020 the coronavirus pandemic hit...
And Hugo was born in May 2021. Which means I'm now going to run it in May 2022. Training is limited to buggy runs with Hugo, a gym session if I have energy, and one long trail run a week.
I'm looking forward to finally doing the run with James in 2022. And it'll be lovely that our families will be together for that weekend which will be Hugo's first birthday and a few days before Mummy's birthday.
I chose to fundraise for this charity because Mummy died from bowel cancer (with mets). A very good school friend of mine also had bowel cancer and she currently has No Evidence of Disease. Let's admit it, no one really likes talking about bowels and bowel habits (unless you have a baby and theirs is a frequent topic of discussion!), so I hope that this helps even the tiniest amount getting you to think about it! I recommend the book Gut by Giulia Enders.
A bit about Bowel Cancer UK: it's the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care. We’re here to stop people dying of bowel cancer
