Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit SCC’s Carers Thames
Walk Fundraising page.
Each year, London Carers’ Thames Walk volunteers organise a
walk alongside the Thames to have fun, raise funds and highlight the work of Carers. Our champion community fundraiser, Carer, Martin Lunn is in his 10th year of supporting us! Over the years, he has raised thousands of pounds for unpaid family and friend Carers in the London Borough of Sutton. This year, Martin is joined by our Information and Communications Officer, Gemma Thatcher and her friends, Sarah George, Sarah Fitzgerald and Ruth Walford.
We hope even more walkers will join us on 9th June. The walk begins and finishes at Southwark Cathedral and walks are suitable for all ages, mobilities and temperaments. You can choose to do a short walk of 2.5 miles, a medium walk of 7.5 miles or a long walk to take in all the sights across 9 miles! There are also routes available for wheelchair users. If you would like to join Martin and Gemma, please get in touch on 020 8296 5611.
All funds raised through this site will make a difference specifically to the lives of Carers who either live or care for someone in
Sutton.
Your sponsorship will help to keep SCC running in times when funding is shrinking and the needs of Carers and their families are growing.
SCC reaches out to Carers, providing:
- Information, advice and training about caring through our telephone support service or in our drop-in centre, community
venues and even Carer’s homes - Practical and emotional support to help make caring a bit easier, whilst helping Carer to stay well themselves
- Time for a break through complementary therapies, such as reflexology
- Help to maximise income through benefit checks and assistance with funding applications
- Peer support groups and access to counselling
- Homework clubs, social activities and one-to-one support for our Young Carers to make sure that caring does not get in the way of their life ambitions
- … and lots more, anything that helps people in their caring roles whilst ensuring they stay well and maintain a life of their
own, too.
Your sponsorship will help us to continue these services and help support Carers to continue looking after some of the most vulnerable people in Sutton: children and adults experiencing physical or mental illnesses and disabilities, long-term conditions or substance misuse issues.
