Story
A bit about me...
I was involved in a very serious life changing accident in April 2014 just 1 week after I got married, and before we made it to our wedding reception back home. I was crushed and dragged between 2 cars whilst pedestrian. I sustained a compound fracture to my left leg tibia and fibula including butterfly fragment. I was also diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety and depression.
I was finally discharged from orthopaedics at the end of October 2019 after undergoing 8 surgeries in total to get my leg to heal including significant plastic surgery and 2 bone grafts. During my recovery when we thought my bone was finally healing it refractured in July 2018. There are things I am unable to do (run, kneel, crouch etc), and I can't walk long distances. I continue to have pain in my leg daily, which worsens during the colder months.
Psychologically it's been a difficult journey, and I battle everyday with the challenges this brings. I'm still receiving treatment for ptsd, and it will be something I will always be working on.
I was introduced to create during my recovery, and have been attending the community group since September 2019. It's had a massive impact on my life, helping me to get out of the house, meeting new people who will be life long friends, and working to build my confidence. Create is somewhere I feel safe, which is really important for me.
Right now we can't meet for our weekly group and they are unable to run the cafe or other projects as they would due to covid19. The team have been adapting, bringing create to our homes which is great.
Ann (one of the team who run create) started a fundraiser, she committed to a 10 mile bike ride everyday for 10 days.
I am now making a commitment to join her, but on my static exercise bike at home... I will be cycling for 45 minutes each day for 10 days consecutively. For some this may not seem much, but for me this is a big challenge. Cycling is part of my physio regime, but I have never done this amount consecutively for so many days without rest days.
I started on Monday 27th April 2020, I have been given the green light from my physio providing my leg is feeling ok. I will be taking photos each day, and my husband will verify I have completed the challenge.
