I work as a consultant in renal medicine, looking after people with advanced and end-stage kidney failure. When people have kidney failure they require dialysis or a kidney transplant for the rest of their lives. This has a huge impact on their quality of life and survival. Often kidney disease is silent and undetected until late stages.
