Story
I just wanted to set up this little fundraising page as today is World Thrombosis Day and also marks 6 months since I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism.
I suffered from multiple blood clots on my lungs in March of this year - due to the start of lockdown and the outbreak of COVID-19, my symptoms were thought to be coronavirus. Turns out I had both coronavirus and a pulmonary embolism at the same time - I thought I didn’t feel very well!
I want to raise awareness and to remind people that if your instinct is that something seriously isn’t right - go to A&E. If you have swelling to your legs, chest pains or shortness of breathe - act on it as an emergency, as you would in ‘normal’ times. It’s pretty much been concluded that I was very lucky. Unfortunately my Dad passed away of the same condition 20 years ago so it’s so important to raise awareness and save other families.
I want to also raise money as although technology and medicine has come a lot since my Dad died in 2000, there’s still a long way to go. Currently, only 20% of blood clotting disorders can be tested for. I’ll never know whether my clots where a result from a pregnancy, c section, immobility from recovery/lockdown, family history or COVID, but it’s so important that research can be done to help in any cases.
Please seek help if you have swelling of you legs, chest pains or feel very unwell - it’s your body’s way of telling you it needs help.
I’m going to walk a marathon over the next week so please support me by giving a few pennies to my cause.
Keep safe and well ❤️
