Suzanne Fathers is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025 · 12 October 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

It’s official, I’ve lost the plot! This October, I will be taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon!

Many of us have been impacted by the cruelty of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. It is incredibly difficult to watch your loved one deteriorate in front of your eyes. My Nan and Grandad both succumbed to this terrible disease, after watching them rapidly decline and becoming a different version of themselves was hard. I miss them dearly, but I’m so glad they don’t have to suffer any longer. It’s a scary and isolating illness.

My Nanny Zippy (my second mum), had dementia. I helped to care for her before she was eventually admitted into a home. If we are looking at the silver lining, we were lucky because the slow-progressing dementia gave us much more time with her, but to slowly watch the most vibrant, funny and caring woman become a shell of herself was nothing but heartbreaking. I miss my Nanny more than words will ever justify.

Alzeimhers and Dementia, does not just impact older people, unfortunately there is early onset cases. The care required when looking after someone with this can be 24/7 in the end and incredibly traumatic.

I want to raise money for this incredible cause to help research treatment options and make a difference for those who are impacted by this now today, tomorrow and in the future.

Thank you in advance for supporting my huge challenge and donating whatever you can, it will make a massive difference.

I WILL make it through that finish line ♥️
