Sprint For Seals · 14 May 2023 ·

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary is currently working on a master plan to improve our facilities and we need your help for another successful 60 years.

Story

I’ve made a last minute decision to take part in the Sprint for Seals 3km race at The Cornish Seal Sanctuary on Sunday 14th May! I couldn’t run at all 6 months ago, so to take on a hilly race (even if it’s only 3km!) feels a bit scary but I’m hoping to raise money to help the sanctuary improve their facilities for the resident seals, and for the 60-70 seals pups they rescue, rehabilitate and release every year.

Their Fund Our Future fundraising campaign aims to raise £1.3million to redevelop their pools to exceed recommended standards in marine mammal care, build a state-of-the-art water filtration system, provide better access to pools for the animal care team, and create a new, undercover viewing area with seating and education spaces.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary has been around for over 60 years, and is very close to my heart. Visiting the seals and seeing the rescued pups go through rehab has kept me going during difficult times, so I want to raise some funds to help them continue their work and remain world-leaders in seal conservation and care!
