Story

While I was on holiday I got an e-mail asking me if I would be interested in running the London marathon to raise money for the Mike Campbell foundation. My first answer was obviously a yes as I often impulsively sign up to things without thinking it through. Later though, when the fear set -  thinking about it the implication of the money and the impact it could make to so many people started to weigh quite heavy on
my heart. This is going to be so so tough, starting training again having only just recovered from 2 broken ribs, but so very worth it.

Thankfully, due to my procrastination, my message is a very new and positive one.

I have been raising money for the foundation for about 5 years now, and my very first fundraising page showed a young boy standing helplessly watching his house burn down with the statistic of nearly 2 million farm workers and their families left destitute. Whilst my cover photos got less dreary, my message and the needs this charity face did not. Zimbabwe has been in turmoil for years, not just the farmers and their workers but the entire country they fed, the jobs they provided, the rural schools and clinics they funded. The foundation has been offering support, hope and purpose to so many people when they needed it the most. This is not  just about white farmers this is about the forgotten workers and communities they were a part of.

Tonight, as I finally get round to setting up my page and doing the admin, I have a hopeful heart. I hope for peace for my country, for a chance to recover and recuperate, to rebuild our beautiful home. For the first time in 10 years there is tangible hope, we have had brief flutters of it with stay aways and vocal pastors but never anything this solid and we are, as ever an optimistic nation. Now more than ever we need to invest in our people and our home so that is why I am setting such a high target and (hopefully) completing such a tough challenge.

Thanks for your time.
