Story

Updated April 2012

Hi guys

Its now only 3 weeks to go until the Trek!

Over the past few months we've been busy fundraising and trying to squeeze in some training walks and runs too!

We have now reached  85% of our Target, which is amazing to us!!! We couldn't have done it without a lot of generosity from a lot of people!!

Here are some Thank Yous!

1.  Thanks to all who came to our 2nd Quiz Night at Errigle Inn on 14th March.

The Quiz Master extraordinaire Mr Karl Quinn and Charming DJ Doherty made it a night to remember...!

Also thanks to the staff at Errigle Inn, and all the local businesses who donated prizes towards our Raffle.

2. Thank you to all the shoppers at Sainsburys Forestside on the 7th of April! We collected almost £1200 from donations during a day of bag packing..which was great!

Again we could not have done this without the help of ALL our amazing family and friends who gave up their time to help us pack bags!! Over the Easter Weekend!!! That meant a lot of Easter eggs packed! We owe you all a lot!!

3. Thanks to the people of Newry and Lisburn who donated money during Street Collections on  Monday 19th March and Monday 9th April respectively.

4. Finally thanks to our friends and family who have donated very generously, in a time when there's not much money to spare.

Updated February 2012

Hi guys

So its been ages since we updated this!! Reasons for this are a combination of Christmas which was great and training which is not so great!!!

We have loads of people to thank!!  So the next  few posts will be our attempt at thanking all those who have helped us get up to 50% of our target so far!!!!!

Firstly the coffee morning back in December was a great day, everyone was very generous and made the week of late night baking well and truly worth it!! We would like to especially thank Lisburn RP Church and Professor Robert McCollum for allowing us to hold the event in the church hall!!

A Big thank you to all the shoppers at Tesco Enniskillen on the 23 of December!!  We collected  nearly £1200 in one day which was amazing and really boosted our target!!!

We could not have done this without the help of ALL our amazing family and friends who gave up their time to help us pack bags!! 2 DAYS before Christmas!!!  We owe you all a big favour!!

Massive Thank you to PMF Consultants! For their more than generous donation of £500!!! Amazing!!

Hi Guys

Thank you all for taking the time to visit our page it is very much appreciated!

We need your help!!  We are taking part in Oxfam’s Trek Peru event in May 2012!!

The trek is the final challenge... The first part of the challenge is to raise a minimum £3500 each, which is a total of £7000!!  Along with setting up this just giving page we hope to organise a number of fun events over the next several months to raise money, so we will keep you updated on those and we hope you will all be able to join in the fun!

By donating you can really help improve the lives of some of the poorest communities in the world.

The challenge involves a 7-day trek, walking at high altitude, trekking for up to 8 hours per day and for 10 hours on the day we reach the highest point of the trek at Chanca Chuco. Ascents and descents on occasions will be steep and exposed and average temperatures will be min 10°C and max 25 °C and will drop to below freezing at night.

Here is a bit about where your money will go!!

The funds raised by Oxfam Challenge Events will be used in both Oxfam Ireland's emergency and long-term work. Here are a few examples of what your fundraising efforts could provide:

  •  Approx £100 / €140 could provide enough food for one month for 5 children orphaned by AIDS. Nourishing food would help by improving their health and well-being.
  •  Approx £160/ €199 could pay for a Farm Pack. A cow, goat, piglets and chickens provide a community with a life-line, improving diets and helping people make a living. Milk, chicks and cheese can be sold to pay for school fees or useful tools.
  •  £2,080 / €3,120 could provide water for a whole community. The construction of dams, boreholes and other sanitation facilities will provide a secure supply of clean, fresh water. A life-saving change.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - We raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now!

Thank you from Aileen + Suzie.
