Great North Run 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·

We support individuals aged over 13, waiting for, or diagnosed as autistic, who do not have a learning disability. We offer services that help build confidence, self esteem and reduce anxiety. We provide individual person-centred support to maximise potential, provided by autistic peer mentors.

Story

On Sunday September 12th I will be running 13.1 miles in the Great North Run. This year it’s going to be a massive challenge for me - training has been a lot more difficult as it’s been much harder to get out as often as needed during the pandemic! It’s also been uncertain as to whether the event would even happen, so in some ways I have been in denial but with one month to go I need to face reality!

When I ran it in 2019 i did it just for the personal challenge, but this time I have decided to fundraise as charities have really struggled over the last 18 months. I have chosen to support Matthews’s Hub, a local charity based in Hull. They are a support service for autistic people without a learning disability aged 13 or over, living in Hull or East Riding. They provide advice and support in relation to employment, education, housing, benefits, health, and diagnosis, including parental support and peer mentorship.
