We tackle poverty with practical assistance to fight disadvantage

Story

Our Springfield group of the St Vincent de Paul society (SVP) has been busy during the Coronavirus crisis.

* We have undertaken to phone the around 70 elderly who we already have contact with for a chat to relieve loneliness and to offer an practical support we can like shopping.

* We also continue to support 25+ families and individuals in need, with the essentials - food, fuel, activity kits, outings, christmas hampers and presents for the families as many don't have the resources many of us are lucky too.

* We have also received lots of additional referrals for friendly telephone calls to the isolated or help with shopping.

* We have help about 4 families/individuals/couples each week with furniture, white goods or other household essentials which have broken and they cannot afford to replace or furniture including furnishing a whole houses.

We now need to raise funds to cover the costs of supporting these families and invidiuals on and ongoing basis. We expect the number of new referrals for people living in difficult financial situations to increase rapidly due to the impact of the Coronavirus lockdown and we'd love to be able to continue to say yes!

Thank you so much.
