We are here for every cat to keep them happy, healthy and safe.

Story

Meet Brewster, he was a former stray cat who came into our care here at Swale Cats Protection, after trying to make himself at home in a local lady’s garden and not getting along with the other cats in the household.

A search for his original owner, along with no microchip, sadly meant that they were never found.  He was sent for a routine vet appointment and booked in to be neutered, when we noticed he had some trouble breathing.

The vet took x-rays to establish why Brewster was having difficulties breathing and found that he had a diaphragmatic hernia. The diaphragm is a layer of muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. A diaphragmatic hernia is when there is a hole in the diaphragm which allows abdominal organs to move upwards into the chest. The hernia put pressure on his lungs causing the breathing difficulties, in order to relieve the pressure on Brewster's lungs to help him breathe better and be more comfortable, the vet advised an operation to close the hernia would be the best option this would give Brewster the best chance of survival.

As Brewster is only around 2 years old, we decided this was the best option for him to give him a happy and healthy life.

Brewster had his operation on Tuesday 3rd November and is now recovering well. It was complex, and we thought for a moment we may have lost him, but our local vets did an amazing job at saving Brewster! It’s going to be slow recovery but he is a young boy and recovering well with lots of hugs and strokes.

His operation and care so far, has cost the branch nearly £2,000 and he still needs extra care. We haven’t been able to fundraise like we normally would this year and so are asking for some help.

Can you spare a few pounds to help pay for Brewster’s care and vet bills?

Anything you can give will make a big difference.

Thanks for your continued support from all the volunteers at Swale Cats Protection.

All funds raised above and beyond those needed to help Brewster will be used to help other cats in the branch’s care.
