2010 Great North Swim · 4 September 2010 ·

L'Arche builds communities with people who have learning disabilities. Together with assistants, they live in ordinary houses, with choice in and access to work, therapy and local resources. The nine L'Arche communities in England, Scotland and Wales are founded on Christian values, also welcoming people of other faiths and none.

Story

PLEASE NOTE: as the Great North Swim was cancelled I shall be participating in the Great Salford Swim on Sunday 26th Sept instead.
L’Arche is an international organisation dedicated to providing communities of residential homes so that adults with learning difficulties can live as securely and as independently as possible to fulfil their potential. There are 137 communities world-wide, but only 9 in the UK.
As a recently appointed Trustee of Friends of L’Arche, Nottingham I have committed to helping to establish the first such community in Nottingham. It will provide much needed support to individuals and their families.
In order to raise awareness (and to raise some necessary money), I have undertaken a personal challenge to participate in the British Gas Great North Swim; (see above re change of plan!) . I don’t expect to win but I do hope to finish !
Please support L’Arche with whatever donation you can afford. My target is to raise over £1,000. As you can see in the picture, I have bought my wet suit and I have been practising!
