Team: Remembering Luca Jones
Growing up for me, as a goalkeeper, they have always been the players that have filled me with the most anticipation. When Brad Jones joined Liverpool, it filled me with huge optimism! As people who I have socialised with will tell you, I have talked none stop about him since he joined and to be honest, it has been quite annoying for them as all my conversations centre around Brad and Dani! It came to 28 October 2011, when a saddening video came on to the Liverpool website, called ‘My Biggest Battle’. It was a video of Brad and Dani describing the ordeal and what they and also Luca have been through since being diagnosed with Leukaemia. That’s the moment when I really put my life into perspective. Those that will know me know that I am not an athlete, as far away from being an athlete as possible. The only sport I take part in and enjoy is football. Despite this fact, I’ve tried to raise money for charity in many different ways and it’s been successful but the time come to where I decided to push my myself to save a life. Anthony Nolan is a massive charity and it helps the poor children with Leukaemia, much like what Luca was going through. Luca had over 50 blood transfusions, which in itself is stressful and painful, yet I squirm at the sight of a needle. I’m only 16 and can’t give blood or donate stem cells yet to save a life and so I decided the only way I can help make a difference is to raise more money for charity and now, Anthony Nolan is my designated charity. That’s why I chose to do the Great North Swim 2013, it’s sportier than anything I ever do and although others could do it easy, for me it’ll be a tough battle but nothing compared to Luca’s battle and that’s what will keep me going in the water! I know Ben 10 was Luca’s favourite programme so during the swim I will try to have as much Ben10 on me as I can, keeping within what the organisers will allow. Brad and Dani are both inspirational parents, as are both of their families and Luca, well, when our new kit was announced to be made by warrior, the very first Liverpool warrior I thought of, was him! RIP Xxxx
