Demelza believes in care that doesn't back down. We deliver extraordinary care to extraordinary children who are facing serious or life-limiting conditions, throughout Kent, South East London and East Sussex.

Story

Hi I'm Adam Phillips

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Demelza Phillips was my sister. She died suddenly of a brain tumour when she was 24. She worked in Acorns Children's Hospice in Birmingham and had such a passion for her work and knew how important the service was that the hospice provided. After her death my mother and father visited the hospice and were instantly taken with the cause.

My parents quickly realised that there was no such service like Acorns in the whole of the South East, the area where we are from.

In 1998 Demelza Hospice Care for Children opened. A hospice designed by my father especially for children and their families with terminal or life threatening illnesses. A happy place to help make lasting and precious memories for the children and their families whilst providing high quality care.

Whilst Demelza has been a part of life for many years I have never really publicly talked about it or taken on a big challenge myself. In the lead up to the 20th anniversary of the first hospice opening, and now with a daughter(Freya Demelza) of my own it is finally time for me to do just that!

On September 9th I am competing in the Dart 10k Swim 2017. A swim that will take me from Totnes to Dittisham, swimming through the open waters of the River Dart in Devon.

I am by no means an athlete and am in fact the landlord of a local pub in Maidstone, Kent, so to complete this challenge will be just that! During the event I know that not only will I be swimming for Demelza, but I will in fact be Swimming with Demelza!! My beloved sister.

The dream is not only to hit the target but more importantly help motivate others to take their own step and give their own challenge a go, whatever that may be.

Your support in this is so important and I want to thank my kit/training and logistic sponsor Sturge International and Play Mountain for the creation of my training blog and social media presence.

Please help me to raise money to help Demelza Hospice Care for Children, a charity incredibly close to my heart, help more families that so desperately need their help across Kent, East Sussex and South East London
