Every 30 seconds firefighters respond to help people in trouble. You will all have seen the headlines over the last couple of years where firefighters have given there lives helping others.
What gets less press are the many hundreds of firefighters who are injured in the line of duty every year. These injuries range from the minor cuts and burns to the lifelong disabilities. That is where the Firefighters Charity comes in.
The Fire Fighter's Charity offers a helpline and residential rehabilitation centres for fire fighters, and fire support staff, who are injured and want to get back to full health as soon as possible.
It costs over £9 million every year to keep the Charity running, and with no government funding, they are completely reliant upon donations from the general public and fire community.
Every year firefighters and fire stations, including Swindon, raise money for their charity. In 2009 Swindon Fire Station celebrates it’s 50
th anniversary and what better way to celebrate than to try and raise £50, 000 for the Firefighters Charity? And so 50-4-50 was born.
There are a number of events being run throughout the year, please support us. If every firefighter in the country pledged just £1 we would hit our target, just think what we could achieve with more.
