Story
Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group is a group of volunteers who befriend and support asylum seekers and refugees. We manage a hostel for homeless asylum seekers while they gather evidence towards their claim.
Asylum seekers have a very limited weekly income so are particularly vulnerable to food shortages and price hikes. Some have no recourse to public funds due to their immigration status, and have no income for food, toiletries or other essentials like mobile credit/internet access.
SWVG teaches English to asylum seekers, works with solicitors to further asylum claims and works with other Southampton refugee charities as well as campaigning for a fairer, more efficient asylum system in the UK.
Instead of our usual sponsored walk, SWVG supporters will be completing their own long walk(s) or cycle ride(s) by the end of September, in accordance with government guidance at the time.
This is a difficult time for charities and for those whom we support. Every contribution will help us reach our group target of £5000.
