Story
On the 6th of March I will be running the virtual Merthyr Marathon, in Bath, to raise money and awareness for the great work that the Terrence Higgins Trust do to eradicate the discrimination and stigma around HIV.
This week is National HIV testing week (https://freetesting.hiv/) which stresses the importance of early diagnosis, as HIV today is treated by ever-improving antiretroviral treatments, and for most people living with HIV this means taking medication once a day. People on effective antiretroviral treatment, cannot pass on the virus. Even though this had been backed by many scientific studies, the stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV is still prevalent, and this charity aims to remove the fear that surrounds this virus.
Their mission is:
- To end the transmission of HIV in the UK.
- To empower and support people living with HIV to lead healthy lives.
- To amplify the voices of those affected by HIV across public and
political arenas to eradicate stigma and discrimination. - To enable people to enjoy good sexual health.
The money raised will help us to support people living with and affected by HIV and poor sexual health. This charity wants to reach their goal of ensuring people with HIV live healthy lives free from prejudice and discrimination, and good sexual health is a right and reality for all.
Any donation would be hugely appreciated, I understand that this is a difficult time to donate, so please don't feel any pressure to do so. Sharing this page would also mean a lot to raise awareness and to educate people about HIV and the valuable work done by this charity.
Thankya, Sydney x
