In March of this year, Naveed and I are taking on the challenge of trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and raising money along the way for Project Shelter Wakadogo.
The Inca Trail trek begins in the Sacred Valley and ends at the world famous UNESCO site of Machu Picchu. The challenge will include trekking for up to 8 hours a day, over rough terrain, at altitudes of up to 4200m and involving extreme temperatures and climate. Many experts believe that the Incas, the advanced South American civilisation, blazed this 27-mile trail five centuries ago as a holy pilgrimage that prepared visitors to enter Machu Picchu.
Wakadogo is a nursery and primary school for over 400 children in a remote village in Gulu, Northern Uganda.
'Wakadogo' means 'for the little ones' in Swahili. The charity was founded in 2005, and serves children and an entire community rebuilding their lives after 23 years of war.
The children are provided with a nutritious school meal every day, so that they can learn on full stomachs, and the charity provides a free health care facility to treat common diseases like Malaria.
Wakadogo believes that education is the most powerful and effective way to change lives.
Any contribution will be greatly appreciated, and will make a real difference.
Just £60 could pay the school nurse's salary for one month, and £160 could sponsor a child for 1 year.
