Cross Bay Walk 2021 · 5 June 2021 ·
Money for Madagascar (MfM) supporters are once again taking on the iconic Cross Bay Walk to raise funds in support of projects in Madagascar.
Famed for its unique wildlife and forests, Madagascar is also one of the poorest countries on earth. 90% of the rural population cannot meet their basic food needs and 50% of children under five suffer from stunting due to chronic malnutrition (World Bank 2020). Whilst international pressure is growing to tackle climate change and preserve forests, extreme poverty combined with population pressure is trapping many Malagasy families into a negative spiral of hunger and environmental degradation. With decreasing productive land available, families are pushed to clear virgin forest simply to grow enough to survive.
MfM's forest and livelihood projects enable some of the poorest people on earth to sustainably support their families, whilst protecting and restoring Madagascar's unique forests.
