US FATTIES CAN RUN TOO!!!
So I'm no Superman and certainly not the Flash but I will be attempting to run in the 5K Speed of Light for Macmillan Caring Locally.
"STAY ALIVE AND KEEP MY HAIR" that was mum's motto!
On the 20th June 2015 I lost my beautiful mum to Lung Cancer. It was mums wish that other than the staff at the Mac unit, she wanted to be cared for at home by my dad and I where she felt safe and loved with all the family close by. Mum was diagnosed in June 2014 and she fought like a trooper against this disease.
In the final months it was really hard and challenging for everyone one but none more than my mum, no-one should ever have to go through what she did. Luckily with the support of the Macmillan team she was supported and made as comfortable as possible with them providing support staff and equipment to aid in mums mobility and comfort.
Cancer hits so many people and every cancer is different and everyone dealing with it as a patient or as a family member deals with it in different ways. What doesn't change or differ is the high level of care and support received by the Macmillan team from their Doctors, their Nurses, their HCA's and District Nurses. There is a huge support network available from Macmillan and they are there for everyone, not just the patients.
To keep the Support and fantastic work they do continuing they need to be funded so I will be running to help raise money for this wonderful team of people who have been shown time and time again to wear their hearts on their sleeves! It may even help to top up the Macmillan Jolly Trolly ;)
Please please please, dig deep and sponsor me in this run.
Due to such fantastic support in only 6 hours of letting people know what I'm doing I've hit my first target so setting a new target:
£100 complete 25/07/15
£250 complete 25/07/15
£500 complete 02/08/15
Every time I set a new target you Smash it, so instead of a new target, lets see how far past this latest target we can get!
While your here and I have your attention, I would like to let you know what has also helped to inspire me to get off my fat arse and get running and that is the amazing work being done by a friend of mine, Dean Brooke. He has been dealing with a similar situation to myself and he has decided not to do the 1 run, but he is doing (at least) 15 for 2015!
PLEASE check out his page here and sponsor him too! https://www.justgiving.com/deansmashbrooke
