Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi my name is Taiba, I am 13 years old. Last year I was severely ill through COVID 19 and almost died. In fact  I did…..

It was one of the worst cases of COVID 19 doctors came across world wide.  When I first became ill I did not have the normal signs of Covid so doctors were not sure what was wrong with me.  They were not sure what they were dealing with.  I didn’t have a temperature or a cough. In fact when I first went to the A&E with stomach pain they thought I may have had appendicitis.  When I was taken to my local hospital the doctors couldn’t work out what was wrong with me.  They thought I may have had some sort of viral infection, but nothing was working on me. All the medication they gave did not have any reaction, I was rapidly getting worse by the minute.

I was quickly transferred from my local A&E to the specialist London Hospital for infectious disease hoping they would have a better idea.  A special ambulance along with a team of doctors arrived to transfer me From London Luton Hospital to London St Marys Hospital as they are world leaders in infectious disease.  I was sedated and placed in a coma. Apparently whilst on route the ambulance had to pull over on the hard shoulder of the motor way and work on me as I was fast deteriorating. They were losing me.  Thanks to the team of doctors I made it to St Marys where I underwent lots of further tests. But no improvement.  The doctors still couldn’t work out what was wrong with me or how to treat me.

The Covid test result was positive, but they hadn’t seen a case like mine any where in the world in a child.  Let alone the UK.  The doctors worked tirelessly making calls world wide to see if anyone else had seen any similar cases.  But nothing I was the only one so it was all new to them.  It was decided that I needed more specialist help so I was going to be sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital. GOSH for short.  My various organs were now getting attacked and we’re failing but somehow I made it through the night. I was still in a coma.

Whilst I was being made ready to go to GOSH from St Marys, apparently my heart had stopped. The amazing doctors and by the grace of Allah I was brought back to life.  I wasn’t ready to give up and it wasn’t my time to leave this world. I still had the rest of my life to live.  So I hung on for dear life. I made it to GOSH with a team of doctors and the amazing Ambulances called CATS.

At GOSH  I would spend over a month there and 10 of these days on an ECMO machine, as my heart was getting weaker and weaker.  This amazing machine kept my blood oxygenated then pumped it back into my body and kept it going around my body.  It kept my organs going whilst my heart rested allowing my heart to recover.  I would under go a heart operation where two holes were made in my heart allowing one side to compensate for the other as one side was getting weaker, my vital organs were all being attacked infact I shouldn’t be here. That’s where the miracle happened.  Amazingly as quickly as my body deteriorated, it began to fight back and started to recover. It was a miracle. In fact they nicknamed me THE MIRACLE child.  So here I am thanks to the amazing team at GOSH. THANK YOU GOSH.

So come on get your purses out and make that important donation. You never know when it might be your child’s life that they save. I am so grateful first of all to Allah for once again giving me life.  I am so grateful to everyone at GOSH, the doctors, the nurses, the stewards , the cleaners all the admin staff. Everyone who works at GOSH, St Marys and Luton and Dunstable  hospitals and the network of supported people.  I am grateful to all my friends, my amazing family, my brother Yusuf for being there waiting for me everyday, this means the  world to me, to the amazing people who raised their hands and prayed for me, all the strangers who heard of my case and prayed for me,  all the people who gave charity in my name and I am grateful to my amazing mother for being with me 24/7 who never gave up.  To my aunts and uncles and all my friends.

Oh yeah and my amazing dad who is running the London Marathon on my behalf even though he has never run a full marathon before and is Asthmatic and has had a bulging disc.  But together with your help and support I’m sure he will be successful Insha Allah.  ( God willing). Thank you for your time and for reading my story. Please donate generously and  share my page. Thank you. Taiba
