Talent Showcase

Talent Showcase · 17 November 2017
Colleagues will be bravely taking to the stage and performing in front of their peers to help raise money for the University of Sheffield Scanner appeal later this month.
Staff from across the University have been getting behind the Sheffield Scanner appeal and have been raising money in numerous ways, including taking part in fantastic physical endurances such as the Big Walk.
The Talent Showcase provides staff with musical and creative interests and talents to also help raise money for the good cause. The Showcase takes place at 7.30pm on Thursday 30 November, and as well as helping raise money for the appeal, promises to be a great night of entertainment.
All money raised in ticket sales and on the evening will go towards the Sheffield Scanner appeal to raise £2 million for a ground-breaking MRI-PET facility that will transform our understanding and treatment of serious conditions including cancer, dementia, MND and strokes.
Come and support your colleagues by buying your tickets here.
We’ve also set up a this JustGiving page where you can sponsor the staff, alumni and students who are generously giving up their time to perform. For the large majority of our performers, the Talent Showcase is a world away from their day jobs as building surveyors and physicists, so please give what you can and help give them a boost to step onto the stage on 30 November.

The following staff, students and alumni will be performing:
We are delighted to reveal that our headline act for the Talent Showcase is well-known stand-up, writer and sketch comedian Glenn Moore, also a Sheffield alumnus.
Nigel Clarke, Faculty of Science
Nigel’s rock band ‘Spontaneous Emissions’ which also features Physics Professor John Cockburn will be performing Motown soul along with favourites from the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. You’ll be on your feet before you know it!
Chloe Jade-Simmons, Student Skills Centre Assistant
Chloe is a big name on the music scene, her first album lauded by Counterfeit magazine as “possibly one of the greatest lyrical representations of modern day love”. She’ll be treating us to stunning original songs sung in her evocative and soulful style.
Sheffield’s answer to Frank Sinatra will also be adding a touch of old school glamour to proceedings with swing favourites such as I’ve got you under my skin and Save the last Dance.
Come and hear our second and equally talented physicist perform jazz and blues. If you're lucky he might perform the music he uses to inspire his students and explain complex phenomena.
Our staff choir who share a passion for music-making together will be performing some of their favourite tunes such as Misty and Fly Me to the Moon.
Kate Mitchell, Corporate Communications
Kate is proud to have performed as a vocalist with some of the city’s most talented jazz musicians at venues across the city. Come hear her perform a selection of her songs accompanied by her fiance James.
The Confucius Institute will be delighting us with traditional Chinese performances - a classical dance with bamboo parasols and decorative ribbons and a mesmerising performance of Tai Chi.
Lizzie Ellen, Corporate Communications
Lizzie will be performing swing and jazz classics alongside classical songs in a range of styles and languages. She’ll be accompanied on piano by professional musician and husband Josh.
Sheffield’s very own A Capella choir will thrill you with their inspiring performances. Using only their voices as an instrument, they recreate favourite songs and hits from all genres.
