Talia: The summer of 2017 was one of the hardest for my family. My perfect, funny, strong, a little bit OCD mum was found to have a rare tumour on one of her ovaries.
In fact so rare, that her doctor had only ever seen 3 previous cases in his 40 year career. The symptoms had presented at the beginning of the summer, but it was a month later that my mum went for a second opinion. Our family was one of the luckiest, in the space of 2 weeks and following 2 operations, my mum does not require any further treatment, although she will have to be monitored for the rest of her life.
I can’t stress how grateful and lucky my family is to have gone through this and come out the other side stronger and closer than ever.
Anyone who knows me will know that I have been bragging for the past year about how long it had been since I’d gone to the gym or done any exercise. I needed a real purpose and challenge to start again, so here I am, aiming to run a 10k, hopefully with the support from all of you!
Please please donate to such an amazing cause so that research and awareness for ovarian cancer can continue and to support families who aren’t quite as lucky as mine.
Emma: I am honoured to run a 10k in support of all Talia has said above. Not only are her special family unit our friends, but they are family too.
It would mean so much to us to help raise money towards future developments for Ovarian Cancer. We hope that other families will be as lucky as theirs in the future.
Our 15 year old largely rounded selves would be proud of us managing to run 10k for such an important cause now close to our hearts. We are entirely grateful for all contributions made. Thank you to all for your support.
