Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

Starlight is the UK’s leading charity for children’s play in hospitals and hospices. We work to ensure every child can experience the power of play, supporting their mental and physical health during treatment and recovery from illness.

Story

As you may know I have always wanted to run the London Marathon and when I got introduced to Starlight Children's Foundation late last year through work I found the charity I wanted to run for.

Below are further details about Starlight and my experience of them. Please help me make the 6am training sessions, Friday nights in and various skin discomforts worthwhile! Thank you. Tam

I got a call from a client trying to secure some Stevie Wonder tickets for a Starlight wish. Nassir, is 13 years old and lives in Northampton.  A couple of years ago he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, thankfully Nassir defeated his cancer but has been left blind and unable to participate in many normal teenage activities because of the tumour and his operations.

Nassir is however a very talented musician and is still able to play the piano - his hero is Stevie Wonder. Starlight Children’s Foundation wanted to make Nassir’s dreams come true! Nassir came to the Stevie Wonder concert at the O2 and we managed to get him backstage afterwards to meet his idol who played the piano with him!

It was a very emotional and happy experience for everyone involved. Nassir's mum said "Meeting Stevie Wonder has helped Nassir hugely, he can see how successful and positive Stevie Wonder is despite being blind and made him feel so much more hopeful about his own situation."

The money I raise will help Starlight fulfil the wishes of other children like Nassir so your help is much appreciated.
