Story

I want to help other children like Freddie have a Future and a better outcome by raising money for research into new treatments.

I am 50 this year so I wanted to do something good in my 50th year, not that I'm not normally 😉. So I decided I wanted to go back to my roots and run the London Marathon my first, for Charity. I have always supported Cancer Charities due to loosing loved ones and the amazing work they do for us all. I decided to run for Freddie's Future it funds vital research and support for children with Bone Cancer Ewing's Sarcoma. It is also a very local charity and I often run through Freddie's village. Please help me raise funds so other Children do not suffer from the gruelling out of date treatment that Freddie went through and give a better chance of survival and a future.

Freddie was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer in November 2019 called Ewing’s sarcoma which was metastatic (in more than one place). It’s an aggressive cancer that creates tumours in the bone and soft tissue that can spread to anywhere in the body, very quickly. Freddie underwent around 8 months of gruelling treatment, including 14 rounds of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiotherapy, which was beyond tough and more than any child should ever have to go through. Sadly first line treatment is very out of date - some of the chemotherapy drugs are over 40 years old and come with some scary side effects, and after everything patients go through, relapse rates are high so Freddie will be monitored for years to come….this is all due to lack of research, this awful disease needs so much more to give better outcomes.

Bone Cancer Research Trust despite being small, fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
