Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in order to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

On the 1st July 2012 I woke to a phone call from my younger sister who was distraught. Crying inconsolably she informed me our mother had died.

To begin with the sudden loss of my mother was unbearable to even think about let alone try to process. She was fit, incredibly healthy and we were all left completley shell schocked.

An inquest was opened to determine the cause of her death, after an agonising three months we finally found out that she died from Ischemic Heart Disease.

I knew during this incredibly hard time that I wanted to do something to stop others from having to go through the pain and suffering my family and I felt.

So my first challenge...

At 5,895 meters (19,340 feet) above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountains in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world! It is a volcano and is classed as dormant, rather than extinct!

This is one of the most challenging events and not for the faint hearted. The climb the the summit is anything but easy, it will consist of trekking for 8 - 17 hours a day for seven days!

Why, you ask?

Heart and circulatoty diseases kill more people in the UK than ANYTHING ELSE, including cancer.

Its a common misconception that heart disease only affects men. In fact, it kills three times more women than brest cancer, yet many women aren't aware they could be at risk.

My mother, my rock and my best friend was a incredibly strong and inspirational woman who made a difference to so many people's lives. Please give whatever you can towards a cause very close to my heart.

If you can't afford to donate how about helping me spread the word by passing this page on to friends and family.
