Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

In 2015 I suffered from sepsis which can be life threatening,  following a 2 week stay in hospital, I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 32.

I worked hard to keep my sugar level under control which can cause long term health effects such as cardiovascular disease but last year my blood sugars started to creep up and I knew I needed to do more to reduce the long term risks . I made a concerted effort to start a low carb high fat diet and started running regularly. Since starting this I have reduced both my cholesterol and hba1c levels. This in return has helped me stop medication for diabetes.

Diabetes can cause many additional health problems and I want to raise awareness about the disease. I want to run for Diabetes UK as I feel more research and funding is vital to help combatting the condition. I have decided to run the Great North half marathon as it will be a new challenge for me.
