Story
On 25th June 2022 we will be walking to the summit of Snowdon to help raise money for CW+, the official charity of Chelsea & Westminster hospital.
In May 2021, Tara's daughter, Orla, was transferred to C&W NICU hours after birth due to an undiagnosed Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).
She was put on a ventilator and stabilised before receiving a life-saving operation at just 3 days old. After spending one week on the intensive care unit, Orla was able to move to the high dependancy unit where she spent a further week establishing her feeds, whilst ensuring she was well enough to go home.
Its thanks to the outstanding specialist care from the consultants, nurses, registrars, surgeons and countless other team members at C&W, that Orla is a happy, healthy baby today.
Thankfully, CDH is a relatively rare birth defect which occurs in about 1 in 2,500 births. Currently the survival rate for babies born with CDH is 50%. We have chosen to support the CW+ 'A Little Helping Hand' programme in order to support funding in innovation and research to help other families have positive outcomes. Your donations will go towards vital research in maternal health and complications in pregnancy and childbirth, and innovation programmes led by C&W's nurses, midwives and doctors.
We are so, so grateful for your donation :)
