Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and helping to raise money in memory of Fleur-Rose.
MONDAY THE 4TH OF APRIL, THE DAY OUR LIVES WERE TRULY BROKEN.
Fleur woke up at 3.10am feeling warm, so as a mother I did the usual routine and stripped her down, gave her Calpol, fluids, etc. After settling her she went back to sleep.
At 7am she woke again. She didn't quite seem herself but I wasn't concerned, I just thought typical, another bug. I picked Fleur up and in my arms she had a febrile convulsion. Not experiencing this before I was screaming as I thought she was dying. I called an ambulance which arrived promptly. They gave Fleur the once over and said as its her first we will take her to hospital for a check up.
We arrived at P.R Hospital, Telford at approx 9.30am. Fleur seemed to perk up a bit and I thought great, a quick check up then we can go home. After spending what felt like forever in A and E we were eventually seen and by this time Fleur seemed ok playing with toys etc. Suddenly she began to bring up phlegm which she was finding difficult. I told a nurse who then asked a doctor to check her. It was decided to do an x-ray. After checking Fleurs throat she said it was sore. The X-ray came back clear!!!!!!!
They then decided to do some blood tests which take between 12-48hours before we got results. 3pm they decided to keep her in for the night and by 4.30pm we were taken to the children's ward. It was tea time so we decided to try fleur with some food as she hadn't wanted any food all day. One mouthful thats all she had.
I noticed a mark appear on Fleur's neck so I took her vest off. Before our eyes the blotchiness came from nowhere. My husband went to get the nurse. By the time they came back it had gone, only leaving a pin prick on her forehead and one on her tummy. They then realised things were more serious then they first thought.
Fleur was taken to resus where a team of people came, it was like a bad dream before our eyes. They began to pump her full of antibiotics, fluids etc, I remember the words meningitis. We were like we've been here all day why haven't you said this before to us? This was 5.30pm by 11.04pm our beautiful, strong, little girl was gone. To cut it short more needs to be done, we need more awareness its not always about the rash.
Sunday she was healthy and happy by Monday night gone. Fleur's strain of meningitis was Streptococcal Pneumonia Septicaemia. This is a bacterial infection.
