Story

Hello!

Thanks so much for visiting my page! I would really LOVE your support as I tackle some really ridiculous running events coming up - and with less than three months to go to The Comrades, I figure I better get going on this...

As many know, it’s been an unbelievably difficult last 8 months and in many ways, running has been my saving grace. As is always the case, you only realise there's a lack of something when you need it. In my search for support and resources, I have also learned that there really aren’t a lot of accessible resources for people (especially the young) bereaved by suicide.

As such, I have chosen Suicide&co as my charity – an amazing organisation supporting those (including myself) bereaved by suicide. They provide amazing free resources that are easily digestible and remove a lot of the “scary” surrounding suicide bereavement. Perhaps, most incredibly they offer free counselling – but as always, there’s never quite enough money and too much demand.

As for the silly running activities mentioned prior, I have Manchester Marathon in April, an ultramarathon with friend Amy in May and then the formidable Comrades Marathon in June with friends Natalie and Ray. In Feburary, I ran 60km for 60 years (happy bday Papa)– and although it wasn't quite the Route 66 family motorcycle trip Nige had talked about for YEARS, it offered a unique opportunity to reflect with joy, gratitude and thankfulness on and for his life with friends and family. He would have loved how everyone came together for it.

I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated on my journey across all the platforms – but if you do have Instagram, I am documenting all my antics on @_runforjoy_.

Please do consider supporting me as I tackle the next few months. It was incomprehensible to me in my past-life as a swimmer that I’d ever be able to run 5km… and as much as I love it now, I also know it’s going to be painful.

Dad – what a legend. I miss you.

And for all those hurting – I’m with you.
