As you all know I love running & this October I will be running the London Marathon for Cancer Research Wales.

As some of you already know cancer has affected my family including Bowel cancer which is the second biggest cancer killer in Wales. Over 50% of cases are diagnosed at the later stages of disease when the chances of successful treatment are much reduced.

The earlier cancer can be diagnosed, the better – but cancer isn’t always easy to detect using signs and symptoms. The team at Swansea University is developing a simple blood test that can help doctors make quick and accurate decisions in the diagnosis of
bowel cancer. Only 10% of patients attending their GP with a bowel complaint go on to receive a bowel cancer diagnosis, and the team has already shown that the test can identify these patients with a high degree of accuracy.

Cancer Research Wales is funding pioneering research into the key areas of prevention, diagnosis & treatment of cancer in Wales.
